Here are some comments from participants of the past AFMP programs.

“Learning how to better use financial ratios gave me the confidence I needed to buy another farm. I made good use of AFMP in the one transaction and that’s a big transaction. It also helps you to be on top of your game in dealing with the bank. I can hardly say enough good things about the skills I developed. I was really pleased.”

Alfred Noorloos

“AFMP does a good job on branding and communications, topics every farm needs to talk about. Branding is really important for us because we have a fruit and vegetable business where we sell directly to the consumer, where branding is really important.”

Ian McGregor

“I like the communications part of AFMP. It’s especially important when you work in a family business. It’s nice to be there with other farmers and be able to talk and share experiences. I learned a lot from that session.”

Scott Timmings

“AFMP covers all areas of farming. This course helped to reveal the areas that our farm may be lacking and at the same time let us realize that there are professionals able to help in every area to better your business, even communication which is the backbone to any successful business.”

Tina Connell

“Unless you have a business major and you are confident you have all aspects of your business in order, I think AFMP would be pretty helpful for most if not every farmer. The financial aspects were very valuable, because our businesses are more and more about where we stand financially.”

Alfred Noorloos

“AFMP’s Management Action Plan was really good because it breaks the traditional management plan down into simpler terms, making it more manageable and less daunting. There are lots of examples provided by the instructors and that really helps.”

Ian McGregor

“The biggest learning for me was the financial aspect. AFMP gave me a better understanding of what questions to ask your bank and how to deal with the bank to get better rates.”

Murray Good

“I really enjoyed the financial management part of AFMP and having the professionals in there. I learned a lot about financial ratios and how they can help you manage your business.”

Scott Timmings

“The financials showed us how the banker looks at our books and if we are in a good spot or how we may need to make it look better. We were also shown the importance of setting goals – financially and physically.”

Tina Connell

“I really liked developing a Management Action Plan. We built the Action Plan as we worked through the different themes in the course. That was very different from any approach I have seen from the past. You usually put business plans on a shelf, but this is very action-oriented. As we worked though the exercises, we identified real solid goals and actions and how to follow through on them.”
